About Sharon Townsend

Sharon Townsend

I hadn't painted for around 30 years until I became ill 5 years ago and needed to find the peace and relaxation which decorative painting gives to everyone. It is so absorbing and therapeutic that it takes the mind off things that you sometimes do not wish to dwell on. The trouble was that I could not find a teacher that taught acrylic painting in this country and I was prepared to travel abroad to get the lessons I yearned for. To cut a long story short, this is how I ended up becoming a teacher myself!

I have the best job ever because my pupils go away feeling so pleased with their achievements and I get enormous satisfaction from this. Over the past few years I have taught an age range of 9 – 91 years.

Everyday items can be transformed – in fact any surface that you can think of can be decorated – the only exceptions I can think of are fur and hair although I do decorate my own hair sometimes, albeit unintentionally!! The acrylic paint that I use is durable so that even objects left outside such as plant pots and garden furniture, garage doors and even wheelie bins! I also demonstrate and give talks to various women's groups, exhibitions, craft fairs, art shops and schools.

I offer one off introductory 3 hour Saturday and 2 hour weekday workshops in both Woking and Staines to give an opportunity for individuals to see if they like it before committing to regular classes. See full details including prices on my tuition page.

First time students do not need to bring any equipment except for some wet wipes and a few pieces of kitchen roll, an apron or an old shirt. All paints, brushes etc will be supplied for use during the first workshop.
